The Florida Highway Patrol reports that six people died in two separate Sunday morning car accidents about 80 miles southwest of Clermont.
The Tampa Bay area accidents took place eight hours apart: one happened when a driver failed to stop for traffic and then slammed into two cars, and the other took place when a sport utility vehicle rolled over.
Around 11 on Sunday morning, a 2000 two-door Toyota driven by a 22-year-old man failed to stop, slamming into the back end of a four-door 2008 Volkswagen.
The Toyota kept going, according to police officers, swerving into oncoming traffic and piling into another vehicle. Three people in that car, on their way home from church, died at the scene of the head-on collision.
The three were a Florida woman, 90, and two New Yorkers, 77 and 78 years old. The two from New York were a man and woman with the same last name, though the media report didn't state the nature of their relationship.
Others involved in the crash were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
The Florida woman who died in the crash had recently lost her husband after nearly 70 years of marriage.
Some hours earlier, tragedy struck around three in the morning when three fathers of young children died after they were ejected from an SUV that overturned on a highway.
Authorities don't yet know why the vehicle overturned.
The men were 29, 27 and 29 years old.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
